“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.” – John Green, The Fault in our Stars.
I can’t believe how much I relate to this, and I’m sure many of you would agree that you can become so absorbed in a book and its characters that their reality becomes your reality, their problems become your problems and their feelings become your feelings.
I believe it takes a chapter to get into a book, and from there make a judgement on whether this will become your addiction for the next few days (in my case sometimes a few hours) so this is my little chapter, your chance to see whether my blog will be worth your while… (read that last bit in a happy voice by the way, I’m smiling!!)
It’s amazing how a piece of paper, a few words can reduce you to tears in a matter of seconds, make you laugh minutes later and in so many cases immerse you so far into them that you’re almost begging that their dystopian and supernatural worlds exist…
…hi, I’m Sasha,
small 5’2″ and the subject of many height jokes, addicted to the wonderful world of literature and all things creative, and an aspiring journalist. I live in the UK (and coincidentally hate rain) but I would love to travel the world, experience different cultures and share that story with people, but I guess one thing at a time…
So that brings me to here… my first proper blog (I did previously publish a Lifestyle blog however I see that as more of a learning curve) and I have high hopes for it to achieve something. I want people to stop here and go “ooh wow, okay, here is something valuable worth reading, worth my time, worth following…”
And if there is one thing I learnt from my previous experience, is to be true to myself and therefore true to my readers. At the start of 2016 like many people, I compiled a long list of goals about what sort of person I wanted to be this year, and one of my main aspirations was to be true to myself. I find it way too easy to follow the crowd, to be generic, through the fear of not conforming to social expectations, but I found that lying to myself was making me unhappy…so I let go of that charade…
And here I am almost 8 months later plunging into the blogging world almost blind, wearing fluffy socks in August, spending my summer blogging and not sleeping (but my bed calls to me…) hoping to learn many new skills and meet lots of new people along the way.
I want my blog to be a place where I can share my favourite quotes from my favourite books, to really delve into the characters and the ideas presented to us, to unearth possible hidden meanings within chapters and to recommend my favourites for you to enjoy. Not only that, I want this to be a place where you, the book lovers, can share thoughts, opinions, your favourites, your comments, and build a real exciting community.
My main focus will be Teen Dystopian Fiction, however this isn’t the only genre I have grown to love, so there may be a few randoms along the way!
Please head to my social media pages for more posts, photos, quotes and maybe shoutouts too!
I hope I get to know many of you quite well during my blogging journey!
